imageThe Threatening Shadow

This Deck article was written by openCards user Jaxander at Dec 20th, 2009.

((Sorry, for some reason it brings up a bunch of Tournaments above my deck layout. This is my first time using OpenCards, and I selected <none> for where it's been used, but for some reason they all still come up.))

Probably my favorite deck that I've made. Like most of mine, it's heavy focus is on the Shadow side. Gollum cards utilize threats for my opponent, putting them out as well as using them to their fullest extent. Support the Gollum set-up with some Ringwraith to fill out the Threat usage and add in some muscle as well.

The Free-Peoples side is built to last, buying you another turn to get back to Shadow. Solid Gondor Knight deck, using a few fortifications, some generic Knights for low cost and something to throw under the Balrog Bus. Nothing terribly special here.

imageRaiders and Burdens, part 2

This Deck was build by Cynthia Hart and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

The second in a series of three articles about Easterling Burden Strategies.

"They strike only when their prey is haggard and tired."

In our previous article on burdens; we talked of adding burdens to corrupt the Ring-bearer. But the Easterling burden adding mechanism works well combined with Raider minions that are made more powerful based on the number of burdens the Ring-Bearer has.

Use any of several methods to add burdens, but instead of trying to add enough to corrupt the Ring-bearer, add them and play minions that are made more powerful by the burdens. Often, your opponent will do half the work for you, while bidding to go first.

imageThe Trees are Strong!

This Deck was build by Trek Barnes and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

Ahh, Gandalf. The culture with only one companion - until now. With the release of The Battle of Helm's Deep, the Ents have awoken and are willing to march. At least with a little prodding from the Hobbits.

The Ents have a unique keyword, Unhasty. This is primarily a disadvantage, preventing the Ents from being assigned to fight unless a Gandalf card lets them. (Or they are at their home site, in the case of allies.) Since the Ents are Gandalf culture, they can fight by using their own text: Exerting an unbound hobbit, or discarding two cards from hand.

imageFury of the Dunlendings

This Deck was build by Paul Pierce and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

Fierce. The word itself, by definition, conveys an eagerness to kill or injure. In game terms, it allows a minion to fight in two separate skirmish phases. And because so many games are won in the fierce skirmish phase, it is often one of the most coveted traits to be found on a minion. Given the unending hatred the average Dunlending has for Rohan, it should come as no surprise that the minions of the Dunlending culture can (with some help) participate in the fierce skirmish phase.

None of the Dunlending minions currently available, except for Wulf, have the keyword Fierce on their card, so it takes some effort on the shadow player’s part to take advantage of the extra skirmish. Specifically, the special text that triggers the extra skirmish almost always relies on the minion winning its first battle.

imageThe Eye of Sauron

This Deck was build by Cynthia Hart and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

Sauron, the Maia with thousands of eyes and weapons at his command, broods upon the success of the Free People of the world. He has watched and waited for his time to act. He festers with hatred and plots the downfall of all who would be free of his will. Now that he feels his time has come to act, his spies are everywhere. Observing, reporting and feeding him information that results in plans to wound and eventually destroy those who oppose him. This strategy reflects the way Sauron tries to uses the information he gets from his spies to destroy the Fellowship.

imageGot Maneuver?

This Deck was build by Heidi-Marie Farinholt and was published first on "Lord of the Rings Online (lotrtcg.decipher.com)".

With the recent release of the Battle of Helm's Deep expansion, a new mechanic was introduced into the game - the deployment of weapons onto Fellowship characters during the maneuver phase. Ordinarily the territory of events and special abilities, the maneuver phase is now even more thoroughly exploited by the Horse-Lords of the Rohirrim. With characters such as Eowyn, Daughter of Eomund, and Theoden, King of the Golden Hall, you can now deploy possessions during the maneuver phase to often quite useful effect - in the case of Eowyn, healing her (especially useful in decks using Help in Doubt and Need), and in Theoden's case, healing your Rohirrim allies. While not a maneuver ability, this is also echoed in the character Gamling, Warrior of Rohan. See the rest of this Deck...
