The area „Play“ of open Cards (one of the four areas „Inside“, „Build“, „Play“ and „Underground“ that every game system will feature) will focus on (as the name states it) playing the game and therefore on the topic tournaments too. Today we‘ll introduce here this area with the game system Star Trek Second Edition as an example.
The Player- and Tournament-Scene in most regions is based on honorary tournament directors to organize and conduct tournaments. They set dates, rent rooms, contact players and organize prize-support. Afterwards they enter the tournament results into the official tournament system of the manufacturer to update ratings and to guarantee official prize support.
Player also contribute to the community for example on STCCG-Turnier.de, where they write tournament reports or post their decks online to inspire other players for new strategies or show the advantages of underestimated cards,
We will combine these points on openCards in the area „Play“ and support it with new and helpful features:
- Presentation of tournament locations on openCards: once entered, it can be used for every tournament registration (by all TD‘s on openCards)
- Send newsletter to players associated with specific locations (by using the groups function)
- openCards users can register online to any tournament posted on openCards
- Tournament results can be posted directly on open Cards
- Post the decks of a tournament (perhaps the winning deck of big events). The decks will be stored in the openCards Deck-database and will receive a tag concerning this tournament.
But that’s not all. Every tournament registered on openCards will automatically change from the list of announced tournaments to the list of tournaments that took place as soon it began (as stated in the announcement). After that point, the TD will not only be able to post results, but every user of openCards can post tournament reports or upload pictures of the tournament.
All this will be free services of openCards because our goal is to support you as a TD with the organization and conduct of tournaments as well as you as a player to take a more active part in the community than just playing tournaments (f.e. by posting tournament reports online).
The question remains how to become a Tournament Director on openCards, because only TDs are allowed to announce tournaments, edit locations and post results of his tournament. You can gain the rank of TD simply by enter this information in you account profile!
Furthermore Big Events like the European Continentals 2007 in Berlin will get their own topic in the area „Play“. All relevant Data about such a event (schedule, etc…) can be entered there as well as special interviews or articles, which will be specially presented on open Cards (special banner and announcements on the front page). The tournaments of such events will benefit from our mentioned support for organization and conduct. The coordination of the presentation on openCards will be conducted by the according Brand Manager (in the case of the EC2007 Ulf Benjes as Brand Manager of Star Trek Second Edition).
