    Vulcan "Death Grip"

This Card-Review article was written by Kathy McCracken and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Dec 12th, 2000.

With this interrupt, a Vulcan will be your crew's best friend. It can save a member of either a crew or an Away Team from death or capture, and unlike Security Sacrifice, you don't have to sacrifice the Vulcan to save his friend. The "victim" goes into stasis until the end of the turn, protecting him from most outside threats. As with the MEDICAL personnel required for use of a Genetronic Replicator, the Vulcan must not be affected by whatever catastrophe has befallen the victim (he can't save anyone from Barclay's Protomorphosis Disease or Destroy Radioactive Garbage Scow), but for the typical "kills one personnel" dilemma, you'll be safe with two Vulcans in your Away Team or crew.

While at first glance it might seem like a Federation card, any non-Borg affiliation has access to a variety of highly useful Non-Aligned Vulcans, including Sakonna, Tallera, and the First Contact Vulcans. Their skills are well worth including in your deck (especially with Hortas on the loose), and their ability to use the "death grip" will make them indispensable.

    Combos:

    • Vulcan "Death Grip" + two Vulcans: Protection against Armus, Gorn, Harvester Virus, Dal'Rok, Ilon Tandro...
    • Vulcan "Death Grip" + Prepare the Prisoner: You might want several copies in your deck, but if too many accumulate in your hand, you can recycle one under your deck in exchange for a card draw.
    • Live Long and Prosper + Vulcan "Death Grip": If a dilemma randomly selects two to die, including your Vulcan, save the Vulcan first with Live Long and Prosper and then let him save the other with the "Death Grip."
