Aefvadh! Now that I've finally reviewed Assign Mission Specialists for "background," back to Blaze of Glory green cards. In the days of the Premiere set, when Romulan fans were desperate for personnel with more and better skills, it would have been hard to imagine wanting more single-skilled personnel. Yet oddly enough, when the mission specialist concept was invented, the Romulans once again ended up as the affiliation with the fewest of a hot commodity. While we could download several of the most important classifications, and a few valuable bonus point-scoring skills (notably Treachery and Computer Skill), there were a couple of very noticeable omissions. Blaze of Glory finally remedied this lack with two new single-minded (and green) specialists...
R'MAL AND MOPAK
Personnel, Romulan, Universal, Common
Integrity 7, Cunning 7, Strength 6, Staff star

Green mission specialists fortunately included the universal Selok, with that most Romulan of skills, Treachery. Selok suddenly became useful for perhaps the first time since Premiere. But the second most important skill for the classic Romulan deck, Archaeology, though available in red and blue, was not to be found on a mission specialist with a green border. The sole SCIENCE specialist was Tarus (admittedly useful for bonus points in a space deck, but singularly useless on the ground), and the universal archaeologists, Taul and Galathon, had other skills.
Enter R'Mal. With far superior INTEGRITY to his predecessors, he's your man for augmenting a host of Romulan missions by 5 to 15 points each. From the 25-point Excavation, which becomes a respectable 30 points if R'Mal provides the sole requirement of Archaeology, to Hunt for DNA Program, where triplet R'Mals can add 15 points to an already high-point mission, he'll prove much more valuable than multiple Tauls. He's also the perfect mate to Selok for Plunder Site.

While the Romulans could download SCIENCE, MEDICAL, ENGINEER, OFFICER and V.I.P. classifications from the Premiere mission specialists, they had no downloadable SECURITY specialist, a definite handicap when SECURITY is so important for dilemma-passing, and becoming more so with each new expansion. Mopak fills this gap nicely as another high-INTEGRITY (compared to Taul and Jaron) universal. You can now have a guaranteed SECURITY in play on turn one. Match him with mission specialist Takket for the SECURITY-MEDICAL combo required for so many dilemmas.
While his Biology skill won't see much use for scoring bonus points (there are only a couple of missions where he can do this), it's much more important for passing or curing a couple of nasty dilemmas, particularly Aphasia Device. Until now, it's been fairly hard to come by multiple Biology skills in a Romulan crew, because few uniques have the skill and the only Premiere universal was the holographic Jera. Now you can stock up on SECURITY for passing Security Precautions and Berserk Changelings, with the side benefit of added protection from crippling Aphasia Devices.
The Major's Combos:
- R'Mal x2 + Sarthong Plunder + Assign Mission Specialists: Add anyone else for the required STRENGTH, and 35 points becomes 45.
- Mopak x3 + Takket x3: The easy way to get 3 each of the two most valuable classifications and two highly sought-after dilemma-passing skills.
