Aefvadh! I've never done much in the way of reviews of premiere personnel; in fact, my relatively recent review of Tomalak is the only one. It's time to remedy that situation, with a review of the one who is arguably the best premiere personnel - certainly the one with the most skills...
Doesn't look too impressive compared to today's V.I.P.'s, does she? But if you were playing Romulan in the premiere era, you would almost certainly have Sela in your deck, for three reasons: she was one of the few available females to help pass Matriarchal Society; she had Diplomacy, so together with Tomalak she could get you past a Q-Net or Shaka; and she escaped Firestorm-toasting by a comfortable margin. Even so, in those pre-Tent, pre-download days, many times I found myself stalled at one of those first two dilemmas waiting to draw Sela (who was inevitably near the bottom of my deck).
But as her raw skills have paled somewhat in comparison to the new blood, oddly enough she has also improved in some ways. Along with Tomalak, she can play for free at the Office of the Proconsul, a cheap way to get some extra Diplomacy, a command star and high attributes into play. Then with Blaze of Glory, she finally got her own ship, the Goraxus, so you can download her there with Ready Room Door. And with all the female Romulans added since premiere, Sela still has the best attributes overall.
Her half-human heritage does give her a couple of small drawbacks. Watch out for a Borg opponent bent on stopping first contact with Locutus of Borg as their counterpart, because Sela will be one of the few personnel (along with the / people) a Romulan deck can lose to timeline disruption. She is also vulnerable to Hate Crime as she may well be the only human present in a Romulan Away Team.
The Major's Combos:
- Sela + Goraxus + Ready Room Door: Report her to the bridge, ready to enhance the ship into a formidable war machine with Captain’s Log and/or Defiant Dedication Plaque. Her Leadership lets her lead the battles.
- Sela + Investigate Legend: Whether you plan to complete this mission with 2 Diplomacy or by discarding 2 Youth, Sela can meet the requirement.
