While it's not necessary under the new capture rules to have a brig to hold captives, it has the advantage of allowing you to leave captives without an escort and lets you drain points from your opponent with Prisoner Escort when you pop a captive in the brig. The brig is implemented on a Nor as a site, but users of other facilities aren't left out in the cold: Holding Cell Door gives you a handy brig on an outpost, headquarters or any facility except a Nor, and even aboard any ship. Take a captive into custody and immediately place him in the brig, without having to return to your outpost.
The convenience of a mobile brig comes at a price in comparison to the Security Holding Cell site. Instead of a built-in ability to download Brainwash, Interrogation or Torture, you have to play another copy of this doorway to get the download to the prisoner in the brig. If you have several captives to perform downloads to, you can recycle the played doorway by replacing it on your draw deck instead of discarding it.
Combos:
- Holding Cell Door + any ship + Prisoner Escort: When you pick up a captive, add insult to injury with an immediate 5-point loss to your opponent.
- Holding Cell Door + Husnock Outpost + Husnock Ship: Have a seeded, but mobile, brig in play at the start of the game, aboard a formidable ship that will survive even a Borg Ship dilemma attack.
