The Romulans' first holographic personnel since the Premiere set will be a valuable addition to any Romulan mission-solving or capture deck. With ENGINEER, SECURITY (the first available from a hologram!) and Navigation, he provides the ability to help overcome numerous dilemmas, especially played in multiple as his universal icon allows. With Holo-projectors for Away Team capability, he's perfect for nullifying Duonetic Field Generators or passing Security Precautions.
The near-equivalent of the original Miles O’Brien (BoG), Chief O’Brien lacks only a second dose of Transporter Skill and 2 points off each attribute. In place of the once per game Near-Warp Transport special download, he has the much more useful (to a Romulan capture deck) download of a Brainwash each turn. While only the -requiring Decius, slow Husnock Ship and new Goraxus provide you with built-in Holodecks, with Holo-projectors you can have a Chief O'Brien on every ship to Brainwash the captives you take with Romulan Ambush or Outgunned.
Perhaps his most unusual skill, for a hologram, is Music. The Romulans have finally joined the Federation, Bajorans and Cardassians as possessing a universal Music personnel for a viable Flute deck - and unlike the others, this one is unkillable. Just watch out for deactivation, as his Flute points will evaporate temporarily until he reactivates.
Combos:
- Chief O'Brien + Taul + Cha’Joh + Scout Encounter + Extradition: Their combined STRENGTH of 13 should be sufficient to take almost anyone captive, and the Chief can Brainwash him next turn.
- Chief O'Brien + Jera + Albert Einstein + Paul Rice + Treaty: Federation/Romulan + Senior Staff Meeting: Let a holographic "staff meeting" rid a space mission of its first dilemma; if the next one kills off any or all of the crew, they'll all reactivate next turn.
