    Jem'Hadar Sacrifice

This Card-Review article was written by Kathy McCracken and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Jan 11th, 1999.

Consider the consequences of a white-deprivation battle frenzy: if there are no opposing personnel present for the Jem'Hadar to fight, they will turn on your own Vorta first, and when the Vorta are all dead, will battle each other. In addition to the normal kill resulting from the personnel battle, an additional personnel is chosen to die from white deprivation, so you will lose two personnel each turn. The survivors can do nothing because they are "stopped" by the battle, so barring "unstopping" cards such as Distortion of Space/Time Continuum, or a ship arriving with a fresh supply of white, they are doomed to a quick death within a few turns.

So white deprivation is a condition to be prevented at all costs, including the possible sacrifice of a Jem'Hadar to keep your white from counting down. This card's first function lets you do just that. Before your white runs out, select your most expendable Jem'Hadar and let him sacrifice himself for the greater good. You've lost only one personnel; you get to choose the victim; and you've bought yourself a turn to bring in supplies or return to the Gamma Quadrant.

The second function is a selective "security sacrifice" that lets your Jem'Hadar do what they were bred to do: protect the Founders. If a Founder is about to die, again select your most expendable Jem'Hadar to take his or her place. You save a valuable Founder at the cost of a relatively easily replaced Jem'Hadar.

    Combos:

    • Jem'Hadar Sacrifice + Ketracel-Whiteimage + no Vorta: With no rationing available, buy yourself time to replace your Vorta.
    • Jem'Hadar Sacrifice + any killer dilemma: You may not be able to nullify Yutaimage, but you can minimize your losses even if your opponent has all the Founders' Yuta numbers memorized.
