The first aspect that comes to mind when thinking about the European Continental Championships are usually the big events, simply called Day 1 and Day 2. But this is just the obvious side of the weekend as there are many more side-events to play in, to compete against opponents and to have fun together with new friends.
At the European Continental Championships in Berlin, there will be so many opportunities to show your skills that you might worry about missing something. No need for that! The earlier you will start your trip to EC2007, the more tournaments you will be able to take a trophy from. It all starts with your travel arrangements to Berlin. Four people together making the trip on a train? Or waiting for their next flight at the airport? Just run a short 3-games tournament and you will receive extra prizes in advance! Also on Friday, we will make it easy for you to get to know other players as a fast Dangerous Missions Draft (with some nice additions) at a local beer garden improves your brain skills for the next days. Of course, you can also train your drinking skills for the Biermeister tournament there …
After playing at Day 1 some of you might want to take a rest, to visit the city or to reengineer their deck. We won’t! Whoever wants to spend some more time playing the game we love can use our facility for a tournament of their choice in the evening hours. Ever wanted to play your opponent’s deck rather than your own? Run a deck lottery! Always preferred to have some rule adjustments to the game? Return to the Alpha Quadrant! Never understood why people believe in the power of rare cards? Try out a To the Common People without any rares at all! Or just buy some boosters at the local booth and play a sealed deck of any format you can imagine… Just get together a total of four players and we will add some prizes for you to take home!
On Sunday alone there will be two really big tournaments that hardly match the title side-event as they are on top of organized play: The 2nd Edition World Championship Qualifier and the 1st Edition unofficial European Championship. Did you just read First Edition? That heavily Trek-sense based game with multiple ways to win and to hinder your opponent just having a normal game? Yes, the predecessor of the STCCG we know today will be featured on EC2007 with it very own European Championship! Check out openCards for Sebastian Kirstein’s article about the return of Wormholes, Tribbles and Nors to the stage of Organized Play…
Speaking of those two events, you might have noticed that they don’t start until the first bracket of Trek’s final 16 Day 2 has ended. For you, that means that you can easily chose to take part in one of those even if you have qualified for Day 2 but missed the opportunity to proceed to final 8. Better bring some more decks as you might face the same opponents in the World Qualifier while heading to your alternate buy directly into Day 2 of the World Championship!
Could there be any better ending to weekend – instead of becoming Star Trek’s European Champion 2007 maybe? They can! The ultimate challenge will demand both your brain and body to work together: The Biermeister Challenge. No more words needed, for sure you’re already practicing for the final adventure of Trek gaming… but thinking of all the tournament options you have you shouldn’t forget to prepare for the European Continental Championship itself, of course!
