    Impromptu Prison

This Card-Review article was written by openCards user The Ninja Scot and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Oct 4th, 2005.

The Ferengi have always been known as 'wheelers and dealers' throughout the Star Trek universe and its spreading to their dilemma piles in Second Edition in the form of Opportunity for Profit. Unless your opponent has Acquisition, Engineer and Programming or Honor, Officer and Security, not only will one of his/her personnel be stopped but, at the cost of discarding a card from beneath your Ferenginar, you can stop an extra personnel at random. It's almost as if you're paying a bribe in order to stop someone extra, as is also the case with the card Impromptu Prison.

Still, though, you have to get them to fail the dilemma requirements and, at least on planets, Harsh Conditionsimage seems perfect for helping with that. Simply name Honor, Officer or Security and, more likely than not, you'll get a failure because, with the exception of the Ferengi and some Non-Aligned folks, there are currently very few personnel who have Acquisition – Nog, Eager Cadetimage, Yelsarimage, Tahna Los, Voice of the Kohn-Maimage and Razka Karn, Scavengerimage have been released previously, and a few others will be making their debut alongside Opportunity for Profit once To Boldly Go becomes street legal. (I should mention that the Borg can Ascertain their way around this dilemma.) Even in space, however, there are still possibilities for skill filtering with select stoppers such as Systems Diagnosticimage, Bynars' Passwordimage, Command Decisionsimage and Full Security Alertimage (among others).

While the benefits are obvious, and combining this with Tragic Turnimage (stopping four people instead of two) seems like a match made in heaven, you still have to command Ferenginar and still have to discard a card beneath it in order to gain this benefit. Quark, True Ferengiimage and Kolimage both place a card from your deck beneath Ferenginar when played, but Zek, The Grand Nagusimage can possibly place a card beneath Ferenginar with his order text once during each of your turns (as long as it's not a personnel, which would be drawn into your hand instead), potentially offering a lot more fuel for this dilemma. With so many Ferengi cards that use cards from beneath Ferenginar, you might be running out in a hurry, but as long as there's one, there's still an Opportunity for Profit.
