    Restorative Responsibility

This Card-Review article was written by and was published first on "none".

Whether the goal is to lessen the likelihood of encountering a Whisper in the Dark/Tsiolkovsky Infection debilitating dilemma debacle, or to keep people from Getting Under Your Skin, event destruction has become a nearly mission-critical component of many decks. Starfleet-affiliation personnel need only scurry helm-first into space missions to appreciate the value of Restorative Responsibility, a three-counter-cost event that allows you to destroy any event residing in an opponent's core.

The 'to play' requirement of three Starfleet-affiliation personnel should be easy for most Starfleet decks, but the necessity to complete a space mission may lessen the allure of taking responsibility. Consider, however, the effectiveness of an event that can be coupled with a relatively simple space mission like Treat Plague Ship, especially when your opponent has critical personnel sitting in an Escape Pod. You quickly find yourself with the power to destroy an event, relieve key personnel of command (and a lot more), and score a quick 20 points that may be spent on extra counters using At What Cost?, or to counter some future hindrance, such as a Molecular Mishap.

Under the right circumstances, solving that simple space mission also scores you 10 points if your headquarters is Earth, Humanity's Home, so you may choose to target a traditional three mission, 100-point victory and save Restorative Responsibility for late game play when you've completed a second space mission. Suddenly, all of those pesky copies of Unexpected Difficulties and Machinations on the other side of the table are gone, and your opponent's core is as squeaky clean as the Enterprise was when it left spacedock. The cost of three counters for a one-time use (assuming no surprises) event is another reason Restorative Responsibility may see game play later than other events. Still, considering you can play it without losing points, it nicely supplements other event destruction staples like Amanda Rogers, and may find a cozy home in anti-event strategy decks that previously relied on The Crystalline Entity to do their core cleaning. Whether adding a single copy of Restorative Responsibility to your deck to avoid just one hazardous event, or designing a whole deck around it, be sure to trek responsibly.
